Sections Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a track and a section?

LASA sections provide networking opportunities all year round and have dues requirements to join. LASA sections have their own budgets, director boards and some provide awards and grants for the LASA congresses. For more information on sections, visit the link LASA Sections or contact the LASA sections coordinator

The program tracks are LASA’s organized themes for congress proposals. Participants choose a track theme during the proposal submission process when submitting proposals. Each track has a chair responsible for reviewing the proposals for the conference. Visit the program tracks page to select the most appropriate one for your proposal.

Who can submit the section's sessions into the online system?

Only section chairs can submit the section’s panels, workshops, roundtables, intersectional panels; request a reception, pre-conference and/or special meeting.

Is there a requirement to submit the section sessions?

Yes. The chair(s) of the section, as well as the participants, must have an active LASA membership or All Access and section membership until at least September 162023. Click on the following link if you need to renew or extend your membership or All Access.

RENEW/EXTEND MEMBERSHIP

I am a Section Chair but I don't know how to submit a Section session for LASA2024.

The Section Chairs submission instructions (PDF) on how to submit each type of session (panel, workshop, or roundtable) can be found in 4 languages at the following links: English, Español, Português, Français.

What are the intersectional panels?

Intersectional panels are those in which more than one section participates. LASA2024 allows for up to three intersectional panels. If more than three are received, these will be evaluated by the Track Chairs.

How do I request a room for a reception or meeting within the Congress venue?

If your section decides to host a reception or meeting at the official venue of the Congress, please request a meeting room for a Special Event. It is not necessary to request space for your Section Business Meeting as these have been automatically entered and scheduled by the LASA Secretariat.

How do I get the list of the current section members in my Section?

Please visit the following link and enter your LASA ID and password: Section Members List.
