Convening LASA in Paris provides an opportunity to think about Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole and in relation to the larger global forces that have shaped our world over several centuries. We have chosen to situate the region not only in relation to European colonization but also the transformations unleashed by the Atlantic revolutions and the anticolonial struggles that led to the formation of new republics.
