El 5 de enero de cada año, por mandato constitucional, se inicia un nuevo período anual de la Asamblea Nacional de Venezuela. Está también pautado institucionalmente que ese día se nombra a la directiva que presidirá ese año el poder público. Las expectativas eran altas en 2020. Las fuerzas políticas democráticas y opuestas a la dictadura de Nicolás Maduro gozan desde 2016 de una importante mayoría de curules y ya habían anunciado que ratificarían como presidente al diputado de Voluntad Popular Juan Guaidó, pero nada puede garantizarse en un país donde reina a sus anchas una tiranía arbitraria y carente de los más elementales escrúpulos.
