En uno de los momentos más álgidos de la tensión racial en Estados Unidos, la cadena HBO decidió sacar de su catálogo el clásico Lo que el viento se llevó (1939) por considerar que es una película racista. De igual forma, Martha Kauffman, creadora de la popular serie Friends (1994), ofreció disculpas por la falta de diversidad racial de la serie. En el caso de Kauffman, es válido que un creador puede replantear y tomar distancia frente a sus productos, pero esta debería ser una decisión personal y no impulsada por la presión del público.
