En el marco del Congreso Internacional de la Asociación de Estudios Latinoamericanos 2024, se abordó la problemática de los despojos y desplazamientos en América Latina. Se exploraron los efectos del capitalismo tardío en las comunidades indígenas y rurales de la región, así como las alianzas entre actores diversos que buscan controlar los recursos naturales. Se destacaron ejemplos en países como Colombia, Guatemala y Argentina, donde el Estado juega un papel fundamental tanto en la promoción del extractivismo como en la resistencia y lucha de los movimientos sociales.
