Parece tonto recordarlo, pero es mejor hacerlo: el maldito coronavirus ha puesto de rodillas a los mejores servicios de salud del mundo, y los que no han colapsado lo consiguieron a un costo económico desorbitante. Sería mejor que los latinoamericanos —tan propensos a la chauvinista competencia por la medalla de oro a la calamidad— veamos la cosa en perspectiva regional. Salvo Costa Rica y Uruguay, la verdad es que el resto ha confirmado lo que temíamos: somos una región donde se deja a los pobres una salud, seguridad y educación pública de pésima calidad, mientras los ricos y las clases medias pagan por esos servicios. Con un pacto de ese estilo, no había forma de actuar como Alemania, Corea del Sur o Singapur. La calamidad traída por el COVID-19 debería llevar a los latinoamericanos a pensar en esta desgracia compartida, antes de lanzarse a la búsqueda del gato más oscuro entre los gatos negros.
