Un radiante George Bush, presidente de Estados Unidos, llama por teleconferencia a los líderes de Canadá, Brian Mulroney, y de México, Carlos Salinas de Gortari. “Hola, Brian y Carlos, ¿están allí? ¿Cómo están? Feliz Navidad a los dos. Esta es una llamada para felicitarlos. Estoy muy contento de lo que hemos alcanzado. Estaré firmando esto esta tarde”. Sí, contesta el primer ministro canadiense, “el TLCAN es el acuerdo comercial más grande que se haya negociado”, y, añade Salinas de Gortari, asintiendo, “nuestro pueblo sabe que será bueno para nuestros hijos, para nuestras generaciones futuras”.
